Relief Efforts

We made a big push to raise funds to send to Minoro Administration to buy food items and assemble a relief package to distribute to the students. This week they were able to begin the relief efforts. The items purchased are recommendations from the faculty who know the needs of the students, what items are available, sustainable, and can be maximized. Relief packages were prepared for 102 students and 7 faculty members.

Distribution will take place this Friday, and the faculty will also be handing out the modules for the students course work, parents will be performing more clean up, and also picking up their relief package for their student.

Each package consists of: 3.5 kilos of rice, 5 cans of sardines, 3 packs of noodles, 25grams of coffee, 32oz powdered mild, 1 pack of crackers, and 1 kilo of sugar.

Sardines, noodles, crackers, coffee, powdered milk, sugar!

I want to take a second to say it’s really hard to explain just HOW FAR this amount of food goes. If you’ve experienced hard times, or traveled abroad to underdeveloped countries, you probably have a pretty good understanding of just how little families have. I always recall the times I’ve traveled abroad, specifically my adventures in the Philippines, and it’s apparent that they are thankful for everything they receive, they do not waste anything, and they are very resourceful. This care package could potentially feed a family of 3-4 for roughly 2 weeks–let that sink in. It’s really quite hard to fathom this. As I’ve mentioned, Minoro is in a remote area in the Philippines, they receive some support, but not enough. They have very few outside donors, but they are not consistent. However, Minoro is appreciative of anyone who supports them when they can!

I’ve been in close communication with Mary Jane and her gratitude and thanks for all we do is OVERFLOWING. She shares also the thanks and praise that is sure to come from the students and their families. I can’t begin to express my own gratitude towards all of you who support For the Kids, who drop kind words, and who donate. I can’t type the right words to explain how a small group of people that come together can create such a big impact, halfway across the world. I’m serious when I say my heart swells when we are able to do things like this. I’ve met SO many people in my 29 years on this earth, and the fact that some of you still follow me, believe in me, trust me, all to support For the Kids, even if we haven’t seen or spoke in forever makes my heart so full, and makes me eternally grateful for the blessings I’ve received. It’s truly because of the selfless and loving people I’ve met along the way in life who definitely have a big heart is what makes this entire project possible.

During a year where everyone has been fighting their own personal battles, trying to survive a national pandemic, navigating through political and social justice issues, you still took the time to give back to something that was much bigger than yourself, to support 102 kids halfway around the world, that you’ve never met. To me, this life doesn’t get much better than that. The most love! –A
