It’s hard to believe For the Kids was launched on January 2, 2019. As I reflect back on 2019 and everything we accomplished and my last visit for Minoro, I can’t help but get excited for the future and to continue making a big impact on so many children. In 2019, a little over $3,500 was raised For the Kids. We had 3 large goals we wanted to accomplish in 2019. One being to supply new tables and chairs for the younger students grade K-1st. This was quickly supported and accomplished within the first week. The second goal was supplying school supplies for the 2019 school year starting in July. We shipped two large boxes filled with school supplies identified as needs by the Minoro Administration, backpacks for each student, books, some clothing items and more. They were so grateful to receive these items to support their classrooms and curriculum for the school year.
Our third goal of establishing a feeding program also turned out to be quite successful. After talking with staff and running the numbers, we found out that $200 a month would feed the 120 students of Minoro a “snack like meal” two times a week for one month. More information about the feeding program can be found here: https://forthekids.blog/2018/12/28/minoro-feeding-program/ My most recent visit, I spoke with many staff who again said how important the feeding program was to the school and students. They are provided very little funding to where only 20-25 students are able to have lunch provided by the school. Ms. Lorena, a teacher at Minoro, said that “we don’t understand just exactly how thankful they are to have the feeding opportunities that have been provided to the students through donations”. Sometimes that is the only help they receive, and the only feeding the students get. When the students are notified that there will be a feeding, they get so excited and look forward all week to that time, every student is present that day!
In short, we are making a large impact on the students of Minoro. There have been times when I thought that what we are doing isn’t enough, but my recent visit to Minoro quickly reminded me that is not the case. I am grateful for the relationships and cooperation we have between us and Minoro Adminsitration to be able to make this so successful. It’s amazing what we can accomplish together, even when you’re half way around the world, I think about that everyday. I also think about how a little goes the LONGEST WAY. I look forward to continuing the partnership and growing the program for the best interest of the students of Minoro. Thank you everyone who continues to support this program! Without YOU this would not be possible. Cheers to a successful 2020!
