A Very HAPPY Thanksgiving

I must say, while I missed the traditional turkey, Melody’s famous stuffing, Malia’s cranberry dip, the family time, the naps, the second round of eating…Thanksgiving in the Philippines at Minoro had my heart extra full this year. Thanksgiving is not a holiday celebrated in the Philippines, but I wanted to celebrate somehow. What better way than to have lunch with 120 of your closest friends?! We packed 150 sack lunches to take over for the students, faculty and some parents. The sack lunch consisted of two “siopao”, cookies, fruit and a drink. Siopao literally means “hot bun”. Prepared steamed or toasted and filled with a sweet pork filling (or other types of fillings), this is a Filipino favorite and very filling!

We spent the rest of the day just talking with Administration, laughing and playing with the students.

While I missed the traditions of Thanksgiving back home, it was very hard to have have extreme FOMO when surrounded by all the kids at Minoro. It felt like home, I was happy, and I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Thanks to our supporters for making Thanksgiving sack lunches for the kids possible, they were so happy!
