Taste of the Philippines! Event Recap

Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 marked only two months that we launched For the Kids–and if you would have asked me on January 2nd if this is where it’d all be, I would not believe you! WOW! I have no words! What a DREAM!

Although the forecast for the evening was calling for 5-7 inches of snow, lots of friends and family came out to Taste of the Philippines to show support For the Kids and eat some delicious Philippine cuisine! To everyone who attended, and to everyone who couldn’t make it but supports the project, shared kind words of encouragement and helped spread the word–SALAMAT (thank you!). Thank you from Minoro, thank you from myself!

The menu (which was prepared entirely by my mom who used native herbs, spices, seasonings, and fresh ingredients) consisted of adobo, Filipino spaghetti, pancit canton, Filipino BBQ, Filipino menudo, fried rice, lumpia and siopao! The dessert included cassava cake, Biko suman’s, and white cake decorated to represent the beautiful country of the Philippines which was donated by Taysty Cake Co.

Below you will see comments from Minoro Administration from Facebook on my Tito Noel’s page. We have been in constant communication with Minoro Administration and I can’t even begin to express their sincere thanks for everyone who has supported them. The LOVE!!! Here’s a little inside look:

Where are we now?

Taste of the Philippines was a very successful event, and we were able to raise the funds needed to complete priority projects #2 and #3, and hopefully support Minoro’s feeding project for a few months once classes resume. Currently Minoro is beginning their summer break. REMEMBER: Summer for them is March-June (middle of the month they resume).

During the next few months, we will gather school supplies, recreation equipment, and a few enrichment supplies such as books to box up to ship over. The shipping process can be lengthy. Since the volume of packages being shipped is quite large, the most economical way to send items is via cargo ship which can take anywhere from 2-3 months (depending on the time of year). Anticipated ship date for supplies is May, which means supplies will arrive July.

Many have asked how items get to Minoro and other logistics. In short–Tito Noel (my uncle) travels to Minoro at least twice a week to deliver supplies, check in and provide updates for us. Minoro is about 1.5 hours outside of Naga City (where my mom’s family lives). This has allowed us to be very engaged with the Minoro Project and stay connected as well as have strong communication with all involved. AND we get current photos of everyone 🙂 He will be in charge of delivering the items upon arrival to Naga.

I continue to be in awe of every single person who has shown love and support for this project. My heart stays FULL. I’ve had more “pinch me” moments than I can count. To see the positive impact we are making TOGETHER is priceless. You make this all possible! I am so PROUD to know each one of you. You make this world a better place. SALAMAT, SALAMAT, SALAMAT (Thank you). Cheers! To the Kids!
