Minoro- Feeding Program

An ongoing program needing extra support is the feeding program at Minoro. Lunch is not provided by the school, and students are to bring their own. Some or most of these students don’t have the means to bring lunch. The Philippine Department of Education does distribute some funds for schools in the country, but with that being said….the funds do not get distributed evenly. Corruption, politics, and lack of funding makes it hard for schools that are located in more remote villages (like Minoro) to receive proper funds. The funding that they eventually do receive is not sufficient to feed all students enrolled, and only covers the younger students. According to Administration at Minoro, 1st-6th grade students don’t receive proper feeding. To access the government funds for feeding programs you have to have “pull or know somebody” to facilitate the fund.

Minoro Elementary could use support for funds towards their feeding program (which is more or less considered a snack) for the students. Our goal is to support the Minoro feeding program for the remaining three months left of school which is January, Feruary and March 2019. Total costs for support of this project is $600.

Here is the breakdown:

$200/ month feeds 117 kids snack twice a week (which breaks down to $50/week).

Here’s as example of a traditional snack!

Goto with egg (soup rice with hard boiled egg):  Below is a photo of Ma eating a bowl of Goto! Recipe to the right 🙂 (Unlink Pinterest, I’ll leave out the 17 page novel on how the recipe came to be etc. etc. etc…….)

  • 4 kilo bigas (rice)= P172
  • 2 kilo pulutan= P130
  • Egg= P640
  • Bawang (garlic)-sibuyas (onions)- luya (ginger)= P100
  • Giniling (ground pork)=P360
  • Panggatong (firewood)= P200
  • Labor= P400

  • TOTAL=$40-$50 USD per week**This would feed 117 kids twice a week**

Other popular snacks are sandwiches/crackers, spaghetti, and macaroni soup and is served with juice or lemonade. The snack provide is intended to be “heavy” and of substance so that the kids leave full.
