The Minoro Project

Most likely you’ve visited the HOME page and learned a little bit about Minoro Elementary and their needs. Here I will break it down for your the 3 projects we have identified for 2019.

To the right is a wish list provided by Principal Artemio of Minoro Elementary and his team.

School Supplies

School in the Philippines starts in June and runs through February. Summer months are March, April and May. Our first goal is to provide school supplies, learning materials such as books or flashcards for the 2019 school year for approximately 125 students. It is our hope that we are able to ship items in April so that they arrive before the start of the school year. Here is a breakdown:

  • (8) Wide Ruled Loose Leaf Filler Paper, 100-Sheet, 6 pack
  • (5) Crayola Broad Line Markers 10 Each (pack of 24)
  • (6) BIC Ballpoint pen (pack of 50)
  • (4) Boxes #2 Wood pencils (150 pack)
  • (5) Elmer’s all purpose glue sticks (pack of 60)
  • (3) Crayon 24 assorted colors (pack of 48)
  • TOTAL= $614.77

125 drawstring bags have already been donated, thank you Julia Zuppan!

Recreation Equipment

While probably not as high of a priority for the staff and students of Minoro, My passion for parks and recreation is undeniable! And with that being said…I think they absolutely need all kinds of fun equipment to play with while at school! Basketball is the most popular sport in the Philippines. While many schools have a small basketball court of some sort, Minoro Elementary currently does not. Installation of a small basketball court is definitely a project I would like to see happen in the near future! But for now here are some suggestions and some items we plan to purchase to send over to Minoro:

Equipment such as basketballs, soccer balls, cones, bases, jump ropes, etc.,. (but things that can be reasonable packaged and shipped πŸ™‚ please).

New Tables/Chairs- Project FUNDED! January 2019

If you viewed the HOME page, you probably saw the worn out tables and chairs the younger kids were using. Education is a privilege, everywhere, but especially in the Philippines, and at a young age kids take pride in the opportunity to go to school. It’s important that they are equipped with the proper tools to be successful. We would like to replace the old and unsafe tables and chairs with new ones! Here is the breakdown:

  • (28) plastic chairs @ $3/chair = $84
  • (7) tables @ $9/table = $63
  • TOTAL= $147-$150

This project has been FUNDED!

Restroom/Outhouse

Upon arriving to Minoro Elementary it was hard not to notice the students using the restroom openly on school grounds due to lack of infrastructure of restrooms. This quickly became a priority project for 2019. Providing a restroom for boys and one for girls would be ideal for Minoro Elementary. Here is the breakdown:

  • (2) Restrooms @ $500 each (cost includes lumber, pipes/parts and labor)
  • Total= $1,000
